Why do I need a racing helmet?Auto and kart racing helmets are essential for protecting your head in high-speed accidents. They also shield against debris and, in some motorsports, fire—making them a non-negotiable safety requirement.
How do I choose the right size Kart Racing helmet?Use a flexible tape to measure the circumference of your head just above your eyebrows and ears. Compare the measurement to Bell’s sizing chart. For more help, read our blog on how to fit your helmet properly at Competition Motorsport.
What safety standards should I look for in a youth kart racing helmet? Look for the FIA CMR-2106 certification for karting.

It’s also the helmet of choice for drivers who won’t compromise their safety, no matter where they’re racing. This certification provides an unparalleled level of puncture protection as well as impact resistance.
ABP is an acronym for "Advanced Ballistic Protection". The ABP replaces the zylon panel required by FIA in the previous generation (FIA 8860-2010) helmets, integrating stronger protection into the front of the helmet shell. A brand new testing procedure was introduced to evaluate this area, based on military ballistic specifications with a projectile shot at 250 km/h. The Stilo ST5 FN ABP was the first helmet to be certified to this new standard, offering a higher safety degree while maintaining dimensions and weight.
The Stilo ST5 FN 8860-2018 ABP is among the lightest carbon fiber racing helmets on the market. While it lacks the side ports of the Stilo ST5 GT 8860-2018 Carbon Fiber Helmet, it can still be outfitted with electronics, top forced air, and a helmet eject system. Thanks to an innovative design incorporating mounting and routing for these options, integration is sleek and seamless with nothing protruding, hanging down, or otherwise getting in the way. When not in use, you don't even know they're there.
Looking for increased visibility? The Stilo Helmets ST5 FN ZERO 8860-2018 has a taller and lower-placed eyeport, giving you better visibility while not compromising your safety. Every Stilo visor has a center pinch-clip to make opening and closing easy, even while wearing nomex racing gloves.

Start at a point about an inch above your eyebrows, looping around the back of your head at the point that results in the largest measurement, and finally around to the front again. It's a good idea to take two or three measurements to make sure you have the largest one.

Measuring Your Head
The most effective helmet is one that fits properly. To measure your head, have an assistant use a dressmaker's tape or a piece of string to measure the circumference of your head. Start at a point about an inch above your eyebrows, looping around the back of your head at the point that results in the largest measurement, and finally then around to the front again. It's a good idea to take two or three measurements to make sure you have the largest one.

Colorful Anti-Fog/Anti-Scratch Shields for Your Stilo Helmet
These Stilo visors are a great way to add some color to your racing life! Stilo offers a wide variety of shield options including many popular iridium colors. All Stilo shields have an anti-fog and anti-scratch coating and are made for a perfect fit on your Stilo ST5 helmet (both the GT and N "naked" versions)1.
A Note on Cleaning Anti-Fog/Anti-Scratch Shield
Anti-scratch/anti-fog shields require special care in order to preserve the coatings on the inside of the shield. Only use Acrysol Shield Cleaner to clean your shield, inside and out. Do not use glass cleaner containing ammonia (like Windex) as this can harm both the anti-scratch coating on the outside of the visor and the anti-fog coating on the inside. In a pinch, you're better off using water and a clean microfiber cloth to gently clean your Stilo shield.

Each helmet is built with precision and subjected to rigorous quality control processes. From carbon composite shells to integrated communications systems, Stilo’s manufacturing excellence meets the demands of elite motorsport competitors.
Do Stilo kart racing helmets run true to size?Yes, Stilo helmets typically run true to size. To ensure the best fit, measure the circumference of your head just above your eyebrows and consult Stilo’s official sizing chart. The ST5 KRT is available in a range of shell sizes, making it one of the best karting helmets for kids and adults who demand precision fit and lightweight comfort.
What professional kart racers use Stilo helmets?Stilo helmets are widely used by championship-level drivers in FIA Karting, WSK, and national-level racing series. The Stilo ST5 KRT Karting Helmet is a favorite among competitors who prioritize aerodynamics, visibility, and customizable comfort—essential features for gaining an edge in competitive kart racing.
What certifications does the Stilo ST5 KRT helmet carry? The Stilo ST5 KRT is certified to the Snell K2020 kart helmet standard, making it legal for use in most major karting series around the world. The K2020 certification ensures high-impact resistance, fire protection, and ventilation performance, solidifying the ST5 KRT as one of the best karting helmets for serious racers.
Is the Stilo ST5 KRT suitable for all ages?Yes. Thanks to its wide size range and multiple shell configurations, the Stilo ST5 KRT is suitable for both junior and adult drivers. Its lightweight design helps reduce fatigue during long races, making it a great option for drivers of all experience levels and age groups.
What is the best helmet for kart racing? The Stilo ST5 KRT kart helmet is widely considered one of the best karting helmets, offering premium features for serious kart racers.
What safety standards should I look for in a kart racing helmet?Look for the Snell K2020 certification for karting. It ensures your helmet meets rigorous standards for impact protection. Unlike DOT (for street use), K2020 is designed specifically for motorsports.
Can I use a motorcycle helmet for kart racing? No. Motorcycle helmets lack the kart-specific certifications and features like proper ventilation and impact resistance optimized for karting. Always use a helmet rated for motorsport competition.
How often should I replace my kart racing helmet?Replace your helmet every few years depending on usage and the manufacturer's guidance. If it’s been dropped, involved in an impact, or shows signs of wear, replace it immediately.
Are expensive racing helmets safer than budget ones?Yes, typically. While both must meet minimum safety standards, premium helmets offer lighter materials, better fit, improved aerodynamics, and enhanced comfort, all of which impact race performance and fatigue.
How do I maintain and clean my kart racing helmet?Clean the exterior and interior using a helmet-specific care product like the Molecule Helmet Care Kit. Avoid submerging the helmet or using abrasive cleaners. Visors should be cleaned gently to avoid scratching.
Do I need to wear a balaclava under my kart racing helmet? While not required for all karting events, a balaclava enhances comfort, keeps your helmet liner clean, and helps wick sweat. Fire-rated balaclavas are mandatory in sanctioned auto racing and recommended for high-performance karting.
Is the Snell K rating important?Yes. The Snell K2020 certification is the most widely accepted kart helmet standard, required by many racing series to ensure safety and performance.
Can I wear glasses with my kart racing helmet?Yes. Wide eye ports make it compatible with most prescription glasses and racing eyewear. A good fit ensures the glasses remain stable and fog-free.
Are carbon fiber helmets better?Carbon fiber helmets are lighter and stronger, reducing fatigue during long races while offering excellent impact protection. They are a top choice for competitive drivers.
Can I use a used helmet for racing? It’s not recommended. Damage or degradation may not be visible, and older helmets might not meet current safety standards. Always buy new from an authorized dealer like Competition Motorsport.
How can I prevent helmet fogging during races?Use a visor with built-in anti-fog technology like Bell’s DSAF system, or apply an anti-fog spray or insert. Keeping your helmet well-ventilated also helps.
What's the importance of proper helmet ventilation?Good ventilation helps manage heat and moisture inside the helmet, reducing fatigue and keeping you focused throughout your race.
How do I store my kart racing helmet between races?Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use a padded helmet bag like our Competition Motorsport Evo Helmet Bag to prevent damage during transport or storage.
What is the difference between Snell K2020 and CMR2016 certifications?Snell K2020 is designed for adult karting helmets, focusing on impact protection. CMR2016 is tailored for drivers under 15, offering a lighter helmet to reduce neck strain while maintaining safety standards.
Are tear-off visors necessary for kart racing?Tear-off visors are beneficial in maintaining clear vision during races by allowing drivers to remove a dirty visor layer quickly. They are especially useful in outdoor karting where debris and dirt are common.
How do I know if my helmet is still safe to use?Helmets should be inspected regularly for signs of wear or damage. If a helmet has been involved in a significant impact or shows signs of degradation, it should be replaced immediately. Additionally, helmets should be replaced every 5 years, even if no damage is visible.
Can I customize my kart racing helmet?Yes, many manufacturers offer customization options for fit and aesthetics. However, any modifications should not compromise the helmet's structural integrity or safety certifications.
