The Bell HP77 Carbon Fiber Helmet is Bell Racing's flagship open-cockpit helmet, developed from the multiple Formula 1 World Championship-winning HP7 platform and engineered for professional drivers competing at the highest levels of motorsport.

Built around an ultra-lightweight high-strength, high-modulus carbon fiber shell, the HP77 combines advanced ballistic protection, an extremely narrow eyeport, powerful ventilation, excellent aerodynamics, and an optical-grade Double Screen Anti-Fog shield. The helmet is homologated to the FIA 8860-2018 ABP standard.

FIA 8860-2018 ABP Homologated

The Bell HP77 meets the FIA 8860-2018 ABP standard and was the first Bell helmet to meet this specification. ABP, or Advanced Ballistic Protection, adds additional protection in the frontal area of the helmet for drivers exposed to flying debris in open-cockpit competition.

Bell incorporates high-strength ballistic materials above the HP77's narrow eyeport, creating additional protection without compromising the helmet's lightweight carbon construction.

Designed for Open-Cockpit Racing

The HP77 is specifically intended for professional formula and open-cockpit racers. Its narrow eyeport, ballistic reinforcement, aerodynamic shell, anti-fog visor system, and advanced ventilation are designed for the intense conditions found in open-wheel competition.

The HP77 platform remains closely associated with top-level formula racing, including Formula 1, where Bell continues to use the HP77 family with professional drivers.

Ultra-Light Carbon Fiber Shell

The HP77 uses a high-strength, high-modulus carbon fiber shell manufactured for exceptionally low weight and high structural performance.

Bell's High Performance helmet series uses advanced carbon construction combined with a multi-density energy-absorbing liner system to deliver the level of protection required for FIA 8860 racing applications.

Advanced Ballistic Protection

A distinguishing feature of the HP77 is the reinforced frontal area above the visor opening. High-strength ballistic materials are integrated into this section of the helmet to improve protection against flying debris.

The narrow eyeport also reduces the exposed frontal area while maintaining the visibility required for professional open-cockpit competition.

Multi-Density Energy-Absorbing Liner

Inside the shell, Bell uses an advanced multi-density, multi-piece liner engineered to maximize energy absorption and impact performance.

The combination of the carbon outer shell and sophisticated internal energy-management structure allows Bell to deliver extremely high protection while controlling overall helmet weight and dimensions.

Optical-Grade DSAF Shield

The Bell HP77 includes an optical-grade injection-molded Double Screen Anti-Fog (DSAF) shield. The dual-screen construction is designed to control fogging and maintain clear visibility in changing weather and cockpit conditions.

The HP77 uses the Bell SE077 3mm shield and SV(SE07) pivot system.

12-Channel Ventilation System

Bell equips the HP77 with a powerful top and chin-bar ventilation system featuring 12 intake and extraction channels.

The ventilation arrangement is engineered to move a high volume of air through the helmet while supporting the aerodynamic requirements of open-cockpit racing. The standard air-intake configuration includes a two-piece center intake and low-profile side intakes.

Aerodynamic Shell and Shield Design

The HP77 shell and visor system are shaped to improve aerodynamic performance, reduce internal noise, and enhance the helmet's overall energy-management characteristics.

For drivers who need additional aerodynamic tuning, Bell offers optional top spoilers, top gurneys, and chin-bar gurneys separately.

Factory-Installed HANS Anchors

The Bell HP77 comes with factory-installed HANS anchors as original equipment, making the helmet ready for use with compatible Head and Neck Restraint systems.

Drink Tube and Radio Integration

Integrated channels inside the face area provide multiple routing options for drink tubes and radio communication systems.

Bell also offers the HP77 with an optional special-order frontal chin-bar opening for direct drink-tube installation.

High-Comfort Fire-Retardant Interior

The standard HP77 interior uses Bell's Dark Grey High Strength – High Comfort FR fabric.

Custom-order interior colors are also available, including Tan, White, Red, Purple, Blue, Green, Neon Yellow, Pink, and Orange. Additional cost and lead time may apply to custom interior options.

Synthetic Rubber Gasket Seal

A synthetic rubber gasket surrounds the visor opening to help keep dirt and water from entering the helmet, an important feature for open-cockpit racing in changing weather conditions.

Who Is the Bell HP77 For?

The HP77 is intended for drivers competing in professional formula, open-wheel, and open-cockpit racing where FIA 8860-2018 ABP homologation is required or preferred.

It is also an excellent choice for racers who prioritize extremely low helmet weight, advanced ballistic protection, premium anti-fog performance, and race-proven aerodynamics.

HP77 vs. HP7

Both helmets are based around Bell's High Performance carbon helmet platform, but the HP77 adds the frontal ballistic protection and narrow eyeport required for FIA 8860-2018 ABP homologation. The HP7 is the better comparison for closed-cockpit applications where ABP certification is not required.

Bell HP77 Shield Compatibility

The HP77 uses the Bell SE077 3mm shield with the SV(SE07) pivot system. Replacement DSAF shields are available in multiple finishes and configurations.

Bell HP77 Interior Color Options

Dark Grey FR fabric is standard. Bell also offers several custom-order interior colors including Tan, White, Red, Purple, Blue, Green, Neon Yellow, Pink, and Orange.

Custom interiors are special-order items and may require additional cost and production time.
