Sparco Superleggera Racing Shoes
Introducing the Sparco Superleggera Racing Shoes - the evolution of the X-Light+ and the brainchild of a collaboration with none other than Formula 1 World Champion, Max Verstappen.
The Superleggera is an evolution of the X-Light+ shoe. It was developed with Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen. He had direct feedback on what he wanted in his shoe.
The Superleggera features a unique fireproof stretch fabric that has been developed by the Sparco engineers to be breathable and durable. The Superleggera stretch fabric wraps around the upper foot and ankle like a second skin and prevents dust, soil or other materials from entering the shoe. The remaining upper is breathable cloth material that gives support from the toe box to the heal. These two features combine to produce one of the most comfortable and supportive racing shoe.
The Superleggera features a Carbon Fiber sole. The special Carbon Fiber was developed by Sparco Engineers in the Sparco OEM Seating Division. This carbon fiber is unique because it has been developed to be flexible, it is inlayed into the sole and runs from the toe to the heel. Carbon Fiber is visible through the window of the ultra-thin oil-resistant and anti-static sole which offers greater pedal sensitivity. The sole extends high up the back of the shoe for extra support.
Sparco Superleggera Racing Shoe Features & Benefits
Formula 1 Touch: Developed with the insights and expertise of Max Verstappen. If it's good enough for a World Champion, it's good enough for you!
Second Skin Comfort: The ultra-lightweight stretch fabric wraps around your foot and ankle, ensuring you feel like you're wearing a cloud. Say goodbye to dust, soil, or any other pesky track debris. Your feet are in a protective cocoon now!
Breathe Easy: With a highly breathable upper, your feet will stay cool, even when the race heats up. From the toe box to the heel, you're supported, snug, and ready to conquer the track.
Carbon Fiber Magic: The full Carbon Fiber inlayed sole is not just for show (though it does look pretty cool through that window). It's flexible, anti-static, and resistant to oil and fuel. Plus, with its ultra-thin design, you'll feel every pedal movement, ensuring you're in full control.
Safety First: FIA 8856-2018 Approved. Because while we want you to go fast, we also want you to be safe.

APEX Pro Gen II Lap Time Optimizer
APEX Pro is a tool for competitive drivers. From track days and road racing to autocross and hill-climb, APEX Pro is a tool that helps improve lap times while on track and simplifies post-session data review with the most intuitive software interface available.
APEX Pro pairs using Bluetooth with your Apple (iOS smartphone) to automatically save data to the APEX app. It provides accurate lap-times at over 200 official tracks around the world, as well as allowing custom track creation. While on track, precisely filtered data is logged at 10 Hz and sent to the smartphone. APEX has a suite of tools allowing drivers to review and replay data overlaid on track maps or plotted in many other ways. To compare laps with other drivers, simply email or AirDrop recorded sessions to fellow drivers or driving instructors. You can instantly overlay and compare sessions from the same track. While you're out on the track, friends and crew members can watch your driving and lap-times (and telemetry with Gen II) from anywhere in the world using the CrewView social platform (iOS).
The Ultimate In-Car Driving Coach
Red lights on the APEX Pro indicate unused potential. In motorsport terms, the tires are not at their limit. This limit is calculated by taking in thousands of sensor measurements per second from the internal GPS and accelerometers (nine-axis IMU). These raw sensor measurements are then filtered through the APEX algorithm derived from years of testing at all levels of motorsport. This process on takes a lap or two of driving at pace, and from these measurements APEX determines the car’s road-holding ability (based on your driving, not a theoretical limit).
That's how APEX helps you find your limits. Peak measurements are compared with the other measurements to determine if those peaks seen in one area of the track are achievable elsewhere. Put another way, you may be faster in one section of the track than another, and that is how APEX learns where the available grip is. Red lights represent the limit determined by the APEX algorithm, green lights show you how close you are to that limit. For more information, check out the APEX Pro startup guide linked below!
New APEX Pro Gen II Features
Smoother, more precise data (satellite map and data graphs).

APEX Pro Gen II Driver Benefits
Easy-to-interpret real time display (no more red lights on the straights if you get a good exit)
Lower profile means it takes up less space on the dash so your vision is not obstructed.
You now know if your APEX Pro unit is being charged when you plug it in, and whether it’s fully charged.
Predictive LEDs make it super-simple to see if you are trending faster or slower than your best lap so far.

Whether you're on the track or tackling aggressive street driving, Pagid Racing Brake Pads provide the reliability and confidence you need to push your vehicle to its limits.
Pagid Racing Brake compounds are for steel (cast iron) rotors only unless otherwise noted.
RS 14 Compound:
The Pagid RS 14 (Black) is a high friction value ceramic compound with very good modulation and high fade resistance. A very popular, aggressive pad with strong initial bite and high torque. In addition to the track-day environment, RS14 has shown success in short- to medium-distance circuit racing as well as gravel and tarmac rallying.
RSL 29 Compound:
The PAGID RSL 29 (Yellow) is the world-leading endurance brake pad used by most of the winning teams in motorsport. Although designed primarily for endurance racing, many competitors use this material successfully for sprint and short distance races also. RS29 has also found favor in the growing track day market due to the level of control, good cold performance, long life and low disc wear.
RSL 1 Compound
Used in GT cars, touring cars and prototype endurance racing. Due to the high friction and good modulation, often used in sprint races as well.
RSL 1 is a low metallic resin bonded material containing steel and aramid fibers with very high heat resistance. It maintains a constant friction level over a wide range of temperatures. Its reduced wear rate and disc friendliness make this material appropriate for endurance races.
Pagid RST 1 Compound
Used in Rally tarmac, GT cars and touring cars circuit racing (sprint), high down-force formula cars, NASCAR. Suitable for applications in heavy cars and where high torque is necessary against small diameter rotors. RST 1 has a very high friction level and high temperature resistance. It is a semi-metallic resin bonded material containing steel fibers. Cold friction and initial bite makes this material most appropriate for Rally and NASCAR applications.

Ferodo Brake Pad Compound DS3.12
The DS3.12 brake pad compound is the latest evolution in Ferodo's incredible DS line. Sports cars today have more of everything: more horsepower, more sophisticated aero, higher curb weights, and stickier tires. These attributes place serious demands on a vehicle's brake system.
Ferodo 11 FRP3152GB-N Comparison Chart
The Ferodo DS3.12 is the modern pad compound designed from the start to explicitly handle those demands. Out of all the pad compounds we've ever tested, from all manufacturers, the DS3.12 shows the flattest torque curve across the broadest temperature range. That means on every turn, on every track you drive, on every lap, your brake pedal is going to feel almost exactly the same. This gives you tremendous consistency and repeatability.
Ferodo 11 FRP3152GB-N Coefficient of Friction (Mu) Chart
The DS3.12 has a higher mu (µ) than Ferodo's other compounds, so not as much pedal pressure is required to initiate the desired response. It is also un-fadable, showing no drop in performance at any temperature your brakes will ever see. In dyno testing, the Ferodo DS3.12 has shown superior wear rates compared to the other Ferodo compounds, while remaining kind to brake rotors.
Ferodo 11 FRP3152GB-N Temperature Chart
We believe the Ferodo DS3.12 will become the gold standard to which other race compounds will be compared.

Kart Racing Helmet – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Remember that safety is paramount in kart racing, and choosing the right helmet and maintaining it properly is essential for your protection on the track. Consult the professionals at Competition Motorsport any time you have specific questions about your racing helmet.
What is the best helmet for kart racing?
The Arai SK-6 kart helmet is used by more than 80% of kart racers and widely considered the best karting helmet, offering premium features for serious kart racers.
Why do I need a racing helmet?
Auto and kart racing helmets are essential for protecting your head in high-speed accidents. They also shield against debris and, in some motorsports, fire—making them a non-negotiable safety requirement.
How do I choose the right size kart racing helmet?
Use a flexible tape to measure the circumference of your head just above your eyebrows and ears. Compare the measurement to Bell’s sizing chart. For more help, read our blog on how to fit your helmet properly at Competition Motorsport.
What safety standards should I look for in a kart racing helmet?
Look for the Snell K2020 certification for karting. It ensures your helmet meets rigorous standards for impact protection. Unlike DOT (for street use), K2020 is designed specifically for motorsports.
Can I use a motorcycle helmet for kart racing?
No. Motorcycle helmets lack the kart-specific certifications and features like proper ventilation and impact resistance optimized for karting. Always use a helmet rated for motorsport competition.
How often should I replace my kart racing helmet?
Replace your helmet every few years depending on usage and the manufacturer's guidance. If it’s been dropped, involved in an impact, or shows signs of wear, replace it immediately.
Are expensive racing helmets safer than budget ones?
Yes, typically. While both must meet minimum safety standards, premium helmets offer lighter materials, better fit, improved aerodynamics, and enhanced comfort, all of which impact race performance and fatigue.
How do I maintain and clean my kart racing helmet?
Clean the exterior and interior using a helmet-specific care product like the Molecule Helmet Care Kit. Avoid submerging the helmet or using abrasive cleaners. Visors should be cleaned gently to avoid scratching.
Do I need to wear a balaclava under my kart racing helmet?
While not required for all karting events, a balaclava enhances comfort, keeps your helmet liner clean, and helps wick sweat. Fire-rated balaclavas are mandatory in sanctioned auto racing and recommended for high-performance karting.
Is the Snell K rating important?
Yes. The Snell K2020 certification is the most widely accepted kart helmet standard, required by many racing series to ensure safety and performance.
Can I wear glasses with my kart racing helmet?
Yes. Wide eye ports make it compatible with most prescription glasses and racing eyewear. A good fit ensures the glasses remain stable and fog-free.
Are carbon fiber helmets better?
Carbon fiber helmets are lighter and stronger, reducing fatigue during long races while offering excellent impact protection. They are a top choice for competitive drivers.
Can I use a used helmet for racing?
It’s not recommended. Damage or degradation may not be visible, and older helmets might not meet current safety standards. Always buy new from an authorized dealer like Competition Motorsport.
How can I prevent helmet fogging during races?
Use a visor with built-in anti-fog technology like Bell’s DSAF system, or apply an anti-fog spray or insert. Keeping your helmet well-ventilated also helps.
What's the importance of proper helmet ventilation?
Good ventilation helps manage heat and moisture inside the helmet, reducing fatigue and keeping you focused throughout your race.
How do I store my kart racing helmet between races?
Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use a padded helmet bag like our Competition Motorsport Evo Helmet Bag to prevent damage during transport or storage.
What is the difference between Snell K2020 and CMR2016 certifications?
Snell K2020 is designed for adult karting helmets, focusing on impact protection. CMR2016 is tailored for drivers under 15, offering a lighter helmet to reduce neck strain while maintaining safety standards.
Are tear-off visors necessary for kart racing?
Tear-off visors are beneficial in maintaining clear vision during races by allowing drivers to remove a dirty visor layer quickly. They are especially useful in outdoor karting where debris and dirt are common.
How do I know if my helmet is still safe to use?
Helmets should be inspected regularly for signs of wear or damage. If a helmet has been involved in a significant impact or shows signs of degradation, it should be replaced immediately. Additionally, helmets should be replaced every 5 years, even if no damage is visible.
Can I customize my kart racing helmet?
Yes, many manufacturers offer customization options for fit and aesthetics. However, any modifications should not compromise the helmet's structural integrity or safety certifications.
Where can I buy a certified racing helmet?
Buy from trusted experts like Competition Motorsport, online or in-person at any of our retail locations across the USA. We carry all major brands, including Arai, Bell, Stilo, and Schuberth, and support hundreds of racing events across the country.
