Porsche 992 Technical Service Bulletin ("TSB")
The Porsche 992 GT3/GT3RS introduced some dramatic suspension changes vs. the 991 chassis, most notably moving from a McPherson Strut configuration to double wishbone at the front of the car. The resulting packaging and geometry changes create some potential brake clearance issues under certain driving conditions. With the brake lines attached to the standard front caliper inlet port contact may occur between the brake line banjo fitting and the front anti-roll bar (ARB) drop links or the ARB itself. The interference issue is more pronounced in our CP9669 Kits due to the extremely wide calipers but can also impact our CP9661 Kits to a lesser extent.
Porsche delivers these cars with the front and rear ARBs set to the middle position. Potential interference between the brake line fitting and drop links becomes more likely to occur as:
The anti-roll bar is adjusted towards the softest setting (the hole closest to the end of the bar)
The steering wheel is turned towards full lock
The suspension is under full droop (extended as far as possible)
To address this clearance issue, AP Racing has developed the following solution:
Relocate the caliper hydraulic connection from its current position to the lower bleed screw. This requires a new Spiegler brake line of a different length with a new banjo bolt design manufactured by Spiegler.
The original inlet port in the center of the AP Racing caliper will be closed off with a plug.
CP9661 Kit, part# 13.01.10141/13.01.10141-ENP
On our CP9661 front caliper kits in the as-delivered configuration (brake line attached to the inlet port in the middle of the caliper), interference between the drop link and the brake line fitting may occur when the ARB is adjusted to the softest setting as you approach full steering lock and full suspension droop.
If you won’t be running the ARB in the softest setting with our CP9661 kit, you should not anticipate any issues, and you should not expect any interference when the ARB is set to the medium or stiff settings. If you do plan to run your front ARB in the softest setting, we suggest implementing our brake line relocation as described above, which will provide adequate clearance in all ARB settings.
CP9669 Kit, part# 13.01.10142-ENP
The wider calipers in our CP9669 kits extend further into the wheel well, which creates more potential clearance issues. With the brake line attached to the center inlet port and the ARB set in the soft or middle settings, there may be interference between the brake line banjo fitting or the caliper body with both the ARB drop links or the ARB itself.
With the brake line relocated to the lower bleed screw port, the CP9669 calipers have adequate clearance with the front anti-roll bar end links when they are set in the middle or stiffest positions. The caliper will not clear the front anti-roll bar adjusted to its softest setting, so the ARB cannot be run in that setting. Under full droop and full lock, the end of the anti-roll bar itself may make minor contact with the inlet port plug, but the likelihood of putting the components in those positions under normal driving conditions is very low.

Brembo 2-Piece Rotor FAQs
How long do Brembo discs last?
The usable life of a brake disc is influenced by a number of factors including vehicle weight, driving style, vehicle usage, brake pad material, and many others. Therefore a blanket disc lifetime cannot be given. However, when used in the same conditions, a Brembo disc should meet or exceed the life of the disc it replaces. It is important to periodically check the disc thickness, and replace the disc if it falls below the minimum allowed thickness.
How does reducing weight of the braking system benefit the vehicle?
The mass of any vehicle requires energy to accelerate or decelerate. Reducing vehicle mass improves acceleration and requires less energy to be dissipated during deceleration. Rotating mass requires additional energy in order to increase or decrease its speed of rotation. Therefore, decreasing the mass of the caliper is valuable due to its contribution to total vehicle mass. Decreasing the mass of the disc has an even greater benefit due to the fact that the disc must rotate as well. Additionally, the mass of the brake system is also unsprung mass. Reducing the unsprung mass has the additional benefit of improved suspension performance, resulting in enhanced ride and handling.
Should new discs and pads be bedded in?
The bedding procedure is an important step when installing new rotors and pads. Correctly bedded pads form a transfer layer of material on the surface of the disc which improves overall "bite" and performance. Without proper "pre-bedding" that simulates the correct heat and torque loads seen in actual driving conditions, a pad's true potential cannot be realized. This process will also ensure that the pads will produce a rotor finish with a consistent transfer layer which prevents "judder" from occurring. The Brembo Bedding Memo should be followed when installing a new Brembo system or new discs and / or street pads. For race friction and / or track use, please contact us for detailed information regarding the appropriate bedding procedure to follow.
Some of the bushings in the two-piece disc assembly seem to be loose.
The two-piece disc assemblies utilize a floating disc. The mounting system of the disc is designed to allow a specific amount of float in both the radial and axial directions. Brembo has engineered special springs that are used on every other fastener in order to slightly preload the assembly. This has been done to prevent excessive noise from the system during street use, while still maintaining the benefits of a floating disc. These springs can be seen when looking at the backside of the disc. The small screws on the backside of the disc are properly torqued during assembly and utilize thread lock compound to prevent loosening. They must not be tightened further.
What is the difference between the systems Brembo offers?
Brembo offers different levels for different applications, and for different budgets. There are currently three performance levels within the Brembo program. The first level is the Sport system. These kits include cross-drilled or slotted discs and high performance brake pads, and are direct replacements for the OEM components. The second level, the Gran Turismo system, upgrades the entire corner brake assembly. These kits combine fixed mount, 4, 6, or 8-piston aluminum calipers equipped with high performance brake pads, one or two piece directionally vented discs, and steel-braided brake lines. For those seeking a system for exclusive or nearly exclusive track use, the Race systems offer upgrades consisting of true racing components.
Why are there so many holes in a cross-drilled disc?
The number of holes in a cross-drilled disc is part of the engineered system. Brembo has done extensive testing with regards to the number of holes, their size, their location and their chamfering. This attention to detail is what truly sets Brembo apart in the world of braking. The same attention to detail that is delivered to the Ferrari Formula One effort is a component of the high performance program. The number of holes in a disc is in part a function of the size of the disc and the internal venting (if it is a vented disc).
Why use a two-piece "floating" disc assembly?
There are several reasons that a two-piece floating disc assembly is of benefit. First, by using an aluminum bell for the hub section of the disc saves a great deal of weight. Since this is both rotating and unsprung, it benefits the acceleration, braking, and handling of the vehicle. Secondly, it is better able to handle the large temperature changes that a brake disc experiences. In a two-piece floating disc assembly, the iron disc heats up uniformly, and the controlled float which is present allows for the differential expansion of the very hot brake disc, and the relatively cool aluminum bell. This allows the disc to be used under severe conditions without having a detrimental effect.
Will a Brembo brake system work with my standard master cylinder, ABS, or traction control?
Brembo brake systems are designed to work with your standard master cylinder, and do not hamper the function of your ABS or traction control system.
Will I experience brake noise with Brembo brakes?
Brembo makes every effort to test for and eliminate abnormal brake noise from the systems we offer. There are many factors that can contribute to abnormal brake noises, and while it is unlikely that a Brembo system will create noise, the engineering and customer service departments are available to answer questions and work to solve any noise issues which may arise. Please contact us if you have additional questions or concerns.
How do I properly bed my new Brembo brake rotors?
It is important to follow the proper brake bedding procedure following installation. This is necessary not only for optimum performance of the system, but also to avoid onset of judder (vibration felt through brake and steering). The discs are delivered with a thin zinc coating to prevent corrosion. Prior to beginning the bedding procedure, this plating must be removed from the braking surfaces by driving the car slowly (under 30mph) and performing very light brake applications in order to remove the plating without generating heat. With too much heat or pedal pressure, this plating can be deposited unevenly on the disc, and impregnated into the pad, further increasing the likelihood of judder development. Once a visual inspection of the braking surfaces confirms that the plating has been evenly removed, begin with the bedding procedure as specified below.
Drive vehicle to a remote area and perform at least 30 brake applications of 3 second duration. Use light/medium deceleration with varying starting speeds. Leave at least ½ mile between each brake application
The purpose of this procedure is to gradually increase the temperature in the components without thermal shock, and to mate the brake pad and disc friction surfaces
After the repeated stops, drive the vehicle for several miles with little or no braking in order to adequately cool the components
The system is now ready for normal use
This entire procedure must be complete before driving the vehicle as normal. It is especially important that this process is completed before any extended same-speed driving is done (i.e. freeway travel). Failure to follow these instructions greatly increases the likelihood of judder development
