Sparco Superleggera Driver Race Suit
The Sparco Superleggera race suit is the lightest FIA 8856-2018 approved suit on the market. The Superleggera racing fire suit is not only lightweight but it is also one of the most comfortable Sparco race suits available. It features special four-way stretch panels that run down each side from the underarm to the hip. These side stretch panels combined with a rear stretch panel give drivers incredible mobility and comfort in the seated position.

The Performance version of the Evo brings the famous Sparco Seat to the top with leather and alcantara upholstery. Looks as good on the street as on the track. As Sparco's most well known competition seat, it was a no-brainer to provide the refreshed Evo with Sparco's QRT Ultra-Light Technology. Not content to leave well enough alone, Sparco went a step further by improving the overall fit and feel of the Sparco Evo QRT.
Starting with the shoulder bolsters, Sparco trimmed down the width to help fitment into smaller cars without sacrificing support. Sparco then lowered the side bolsters just enough to improve ingress/egress into/out of the car. Finally, the shoulder belt guides have been raised for improved harness fit in all drivers. With small sports cars in mind (the Sparco Evo QRT fits perfectly in a Miata!), the Sparco Evo QRT is sure be a mainstay at the track!

The OMP HTE-R Racing Seat, which comes in size Regular or XL, is used in pro and amateur racing series all around the world because drivers prefer its protective, halo-style design and uncommonly comfortable construction. Based on a lightweight, gel-coated fiberglass shell, the Airtex material on the upholstered surfaces allows for exceptional breathability under high-temperature conditions.
OMP HTE-R seats have removable base- and back-cushions with an ergonomic, split-leg bottom cushion. They are designed to work comfortably with any HANS device and harnesses. High side-bolsters provide excellent lateral leg support and the seats are side-mount (W fixing) for supreme safety.

The forces to the head in the majority of auto racing accidents come from rotational energy which promotes angular acceleration. It has become rare to have a direct linear impact to the head. Traditional FHR's solid construction and tethering prevent the ability to mitigate angular acceleration forces. With traditional FHR’s in an impact the brain and head immediately speed up and then come to an immediate stop when the tether stops the helmet, which has a similar effect to hitting your head on a wall despite not leaving a scratch on the helmet.IDS technology immediately begins slowing the impact down, controlling the helmet's movement forward, thereby reducing the transfer of angular acceleration forces to the head and brain.
Low Threshold Energy
Recent medical research has provided alarming conclusions surrounding the causes, severity, and long-term effects of concussions. Even seemingly minor concussions may have much more serious long-term effects on the brain, especially when frequency is increased. The current crop of head restraints focus on limiting upper neck tension and leaving concussion prevention up to the helmet companies.
With this well noted, the vast majority of impacts one might experience in auto racing qualify as low-threshold energy impacts. That is, impacts well below the pass/fail velocities of the certification standards, but severe enough to cause a concussion or a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Bumpy tracks, a big cushion in dirt cars, or a string of small crashes can do enough jarring to sustain a concussion or TBI without any obvious carnage to pair it with. IDS starts working the instant an impact begins and the speed sensitive valving makes the technology more compliant and progressive over a broad range of impact velocities common in real world racing while still exceeding the global standard pass/fail requirements.
High Velocity Impacts
Across the entire range of potential impact velocities, the Meru Ascent FHR with IDS technology consistently outperforms competitive designs. Meru meticulously engineers the collar, headrest, hardware, guards and IDS to provide the best possible impact mitigation performance across all impact velocities for both angular and linear accelerations. In a 70G force impact at the cape crash testing lab in Indianapolis, the Meru Ascent FHR with IDS reduced the concussion causing forces through the head from over 300 pounds with our best competition to just 63 pounds with our restraint. They were able to make those gains without giving up low-threshold energy protection or sacrificing neck safety.
Time To Peak (TTP)
Time-to-Peak (TTP) is how long it takes the energy of an impact to reach maximum g-force. Deceleration time is the single most beneficial component in reducing the severity and magnitude of any impact — the more time, the less energy transferred.Because of Meru's proprietary IDS technology, their speed sensitive dampener progressively lowers the head's velocity and almost triples the time to peak, spreading their already drastically reduced load over nearly triple the time.
Upper Neck Tension
The original FHR’s were designed to limit upper neck tension. At the time auto racing's biggest problem was basal skull fracture. Caused by the whiplash motion in an impact, basal skull fracture often severed spinal cords, resulting in death. The original FHR designs did wonders for limiting how far forward the helmet could travel in an impact eliminating the finished whipping motion.
In testing to see how well FHR’s do at preventing basal skull fracture, Meru look at upper neck tension. This number is the main pass/fail standard for the safety organization.In Meru's mission of concussion prevention, the original FHR goal of lowered upper neck tension was not lost and they were able to come in several hundred pounds below the set standard either matching or besting the current industry leaders.

How Does Sparco Hocotex Work?
Racing suits are traditionally constructed using multiple layers of fabric sewn together with an embroidered quilted pattern. This quilting creates air pockets between the layers which expand when exposed to extreme heat and flames, creating a thermal protection barrier for the driver. Sparco Hocotex® uses a honeycomb structure with over 60,000 internal air cells, compared to 300 quilted chambers in a traditional suit. The result is a 10% to 12% increase in protection from heat versus the traditional quilting method.

The QRT-R was the first seat to feature Sparco’s patented QRT ultra-light technology. This QRT Technology gives an unparalleled mechanical strength/weight ratio for fiberglass composite racing seats. QRT Technology gives weight savings of 7 lbs to 10 lbs per shell. The main benefit is that QRT-R seat approaches the weight of a carbon fiber seat at a price of a fiberglass seat.
The QRT-R is the lightest "Medium/Large" size fiberglass seat, the shell alone weighs only 9.9 lbs (or 15 lbs fully trimmed). The QRT-R has a unique CAD design that features a lower seating position that can fit a larger/taller driver with the exterior dimensions that can fit into smaller vehicles. The QRT-R is FIA approved. Available only in cloth upholstery.

The Sparco Prime Spec 1 Race Suit is a USA-exclusive suit that improves on Sparco’s original version of the Prime SP-16. The first thing you will notice is the new suit design. The Prime Spec 1 introduces two new multi-color options.
In addition to a new design, the Sparco Prime Spec 1 adds extra features like fully-floating sleeves, belted waist, and internal pockets. The Sparco Prime Spec 1 Race Suit was made in collaboration with the McLaren Formula One team, resulting in the lightest FIA-approved racing suit in the world. The Prime Spec 1 has unparalleled technological features developed in Sparco’s vaunted R&D laboratories. This development project involved optimizing every race suit detail in terms of materials and construction. Details like an ultra-slim zipper, soft seamless Nomex/Vicosa® wrist and ankle cuffs, further reduced neck and shoulder pads, use of thinner thread, and ultra-flat stitching.
The Sparco Prime Spec 1 Race Suit uses a three-layer construction with proprietary Sparco technology. The third, outer layer is a double-faced mesh made from original DuPont Nomex Comfort, an innovative fabric that delivers both extreme protection and maximum comfort, woven using the Kompact® system. The resulting material contains a high percentage of antistatic fibers, giving it extremely effective antistatic properties as well as excellent breathability.
