Product Description:

McLaren Front Rotors (Girodisc A1-159)

The Girodisc 394mm Front Rotor Conversion for McLaren models provides a lightweight, high-performance alternative to the OEM carbon-ceramic rotors. Designed as a direct bolt-on replacement, these two-piece iron rotors retain full compatibility with the factory calipers while improving heat management, serviceability, and overall braking performance. By switching to iron rotors, drivers benefit from enhanced thermal durability and reduced maintenance costs without compromising braking balance or ABS functionality.

Vehicle Fitment

This Girodisc 394mm front rotor set fits the following McLaren models equipped with OEM carbon-ceramic front rotors:

  • McLaren 540C
  • McLaren 570S / 570GT
  • McLaren 600LT
  • McLaren 650S
  • McLaren 675LT
  • McLaren MP4-12C
  • McLaren 720S (with 394mm front rotors)

Direct fit for factory six-piston front calipers. No modifications required.

Pad Compatibility

To optimize performance and reduce unnecessary weight, these rotors are designed for pads with an annulus (swept area) of 66mm or less. The correct pad shape is the common FMSI D1405, also used on vehicles such as the Nissan GT-R, Cadillac CTS-V, and many AMG Mercedes models with six-piston calipers. Girodisc offers several pad compounds in this shape; contact us for recommendations.

Performance and Design

The rotor assembly combines a 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum hat with a proprietary cast iron friction ring machined entirely in-house at Girodisc. The curved vane design acts as a centrifugal pump, pulling air through the disc to improve cooling efficiency under sustained high temperatures. The result is consistent braking performance, reduced fade, and improved pedal feel in both track and street conditions.

Features

- Direct replacement for OEM 394mm carbon-ceramic rotors; no modifications required.

- Two-piece floating design reduces unsprung and rotating mass for sharper response.

- 6061-T6 aluminum hat mated to a proprietary cast iron rotor ring for strength and thermal control.

- Curved vane internal design promotes efficient airflow and heat dissipation.

- Floating mount system with 12 high-strength alloy steel drive pins for controlled axial and radial float.

- Anti-noise spring washers eliminate rattle during street use while maintaining float under race conditions.

- Cadmium-plated hardware ensures corrosion resistance and longevity.

- Fully machined and assembled in the USA to Girodisc motorsport-grade specifications.

FAQs: McLaren 394mm Front Rotors (Girodisc)

Why do I need to change the pad shape? To maintain optimal weight and heat capacity, the Girodisc rotors use a smaller 66mm swept area. The FMSI D1405 pad shape provides the correct fit and performance balance.

Can I reuse my OEM pads? No. The OEM pads are designed for the full annulus of the carbon-ceramic rotors and are too large for this conversion.

Are these rotors noisy? No. Anti-noise spring washers prevent rattle during normal driving while allowing full float under heat.

What are the main benefits over OEM carbon-ceramic rotors? Improved serviceability, enhanced thermal consistency, and a major cost reduction for replacement and maintenance.

Can the rotors be serviced? Yes. When the cast iron rings wear out, they can be replaced individually, allowing the aluminum hats and hardware to be reused.
